Ways to woo your clients in the wind down to the festive season
December – a time for fun, festivities and finances. If you’re an accountant, that is. It’s not only the best time of year for mince pies, mulled wine and miles of receipts, it’s also the perfect opportunity to give your client relationships a welcome boost.
Curious to find out how to do this, prep for self assessment season and stay sane? Read on.
Share a festive message
Don’t be a bah humbug! Woo your clients by sharing a festive greeting. Personalised, handwritten cards are a lovely touch, but this isn’t always possible if you’ve got hundreds of clients.
So consider making your message digital this year. This can be anything from a simple festive e-card to a video, animation or audio message. You may have an in-house marketing team, creative client, or digital agency to help with this, but if not, there are plenty of free and paid-for tools available on the web, such as Canva.
And digital doesn’t have to mean impersonal. Sure, you can share it on your blog and social media to reach a wider audience, but you can personalise your message by email too.
Reward your golden clients
We all know accountants have favourites. The client who’s always early with receipts ahead of self assessment season. The client you can have a laugh with. The client who made a killer referral.
Or perhaps you categorise your clients by tier. Either way, go the extra mile for your ‘golden’ clients this festive season as they’re the ones who make your working life more enjoyable.
Again, you can select individual gifts and write personalised notes, host a wine and cheese evening or even a virtual event (chocolate making is always a winner!) But you can also digitalise your gifts through platforms such as Huggg, which would allow you to buy multiple digital tokens to share with clients which they can use to select a gift of choice.
Give them food for thought for 2022
Gyms use this well known tactic year in, year out. Photos of tanned, toned people, used to promote their January memberships. “This is what you could look like, with a little work,” they seem to say.
While we’re not suggesting you photograph your best-looking clients, there’s a similar tactic you can use to get them thinking about their 2022 financial fitness.
Spend 15-30 minutes analysing 3-5 client accounts. Notice any trends or key Satago features such as reports or analytics they could benefit from? Can you foresee any cashflow issues, or have you simply not spoken with this client in a while?
Sharing a one-page, personalised report with a few new year recommendations for financial fitness is a great value-add exercise clients will love. And Satago can make this easier for you with its at-a-glance dashboards and clients’ debtor data at your fingertips.
Or, you can make it more generic. Share your top 5 best practice recommendations for new year financial fitness in a simple blog post on your website and social accounts. Woo your clients by being forward-thinking and not buried under a pile of receipts in December!
Share what you care about
The festive season is a time for giving. Of course, this needs to be driven by your own altruistic nature rather than wanting to impress clients, but if there’s a cause or charity you’re already close to or keen on, now’s a great time to do something in aid of them.
For example, you could make a donation on behalf of your firm, volunteer your time, organise gifts for your local nursing home or run a morning litter pick for your local area, if the environment’s your thing.
Or you can simply raise awareness of your cause by posting about it on your social accounts. Again, none of this will be directly to woo clients, but by showing them you are someone who cares about and supports a cause is never a bad thing – and would benefit your cause too, by encouraging others to support and care as well.
Summary
Be seen, get personal and reward your top clients this festive season. Spend a little time using your skills and knowledge gained by platforms like Satago to help clients into 2022, and top it all off by supporting whatever you’re passionate about.
The festive season is great for boosting relationships of all kinds – including clients! So happy wooing, and most of all, find time to enjoy a mince pie or two!
